Journal hijacking: a new threat to academia
In this talk, Sune Dueholm Müller and Johan Ivar Sæbø highlight the emergent threat to academia of journal hijacking and invites to a discussion on how to counter this. To illustrate this new threat they will present the case of when the Scandinavian Journal of Information System was hijacked in an organized scam to lure hundreds of researchers into paying high publication fees, Dr. Müller’s struggle as editor in chief of the journal to free the “hostage”, and the identity theft linking Dr. Sæbø to false articles as part of the same scam.
