Domus Media
Façade work
What's happening?
The Estate Department will carry out façade work on Domus Media in the city centre. First, we will repair a decorative panel by the main entrance of the building using a lift. In August, we will install scaffolding on the west façade, which will be used for work on the base cornice and to trial crack-bridging measures on the smooth wall surfaces. The results of the trials will be used in the planning of base cornice repairs on the three large buildings in the city centre.
When is it happening?
Start date: mid-July 2026 Thursday, 20th August 2026
End date: October 2026
Consequences
- Normal building operation.
- Some noise but limited.
- Low risk of dust. Tarp will be put up if needed.

Domus Medica
Renovation after water leak
What's happening?
The Estate Department is underway with the refurbishment of the premises in Domus Medica which were affected by a severe water leak on Sunday 24th May. Demolition, drying and restoration work are now in progress to achieve the same standard as before the leak. Critical electrical replacements have already been carried out, and the remainder will be carried out over the summer.
When is it happening?
Start date: work has commenced
End date: tentatively September 2026
Consequences
- Most units have moved into temporary premises, but some areas are in use by agreement.
- Some noise. Noisy work is attempted to be scheduled before 9 am and after 3 pm.
- Some dust. Dust‑producing work is planned in consultation with the occupants.

Geitmyrsveien 69 and 71
Renovating rooms for the dental technician programme
The Estate Department will renovate and adapt spaces for the new dental technician programme in Geitmyrsveien 69 and 71. The areas to be renovated are rooms 100, 101a, 101b, 101c, 105a, and 105b on the first floor Geitmyrsveien 69 and rooms 503–510 on the fifth floor of Geitmyrsveien 71. In addition, the ceiling on the fourth floor will be affected due to new pipe installations from the floor above.
When is it happening?
Start date: Tuesday, 21st July 2026
End date: Friday, 18th December 2026
Consequences
- The corridor in room 100 on the first floor of Geitmyrsveien 69 will be closed for passage to the stairwell.
- Noise from demolition work, concrete chasing and drilling in floor dividers.
- Particularly noisy work will be conducted before 08:00 and after 16:00.
- The freezer in the corridor in room 100 in Geitmyrsveien 69 must be moved.

Harald Schjelderups hus
Facade renovation
What's happening?
Statsbygg, which owns and operates Harald Schjelderups hus, will be renovating the façade of the building. As part of the work, scaffolding will be set up along the north gable (the façade facing Ring 3) on the north wing. From week 40, Statsbygg will dismantle the façade down to the load-bearing structure. This will also involve jackhammering, which will cause significant noise. The building will remain open, and teaching will continue as usual.
When is it happening?
Installation of scaffolding starts on Wednesday, 23rd September 2026.
Façade work

End date: Sunday, 4th October 2026
Consequences
- A lot of noise during the dismantling of the façade and jackhammering. The noise will be most noticeable in areas near the worksite but may also be heard in other parts of the building.
- Some noise from scaffolding installation.
- The parking spaces along the north gable will be closed during the work period.

Kjemibygningen og Fysikkbygningen
No hot water
What's happening?
The Estate Department will be replacing the mixing valve for the hot water supply serving both Kjemibygningen and Fysikkbygningen. As a result, there will be no hot water in the taps from 07:00 to 15:00 on Wednesday, 23rd September. Cold water can be used as normal.
When is it happening?
Start date: Wednesday, 23rd September at 07:00
End date: Wednesday, 23rd September at 15:00
Consequences
- There will be no hot water in the taps while work is ongoing. Cold water can be used as normal.

Renovation of vacant spaces
What's happening?
The Estate Department will be renovating the vacant spaces in Kristian Ottosens hus. These areas previously housed the bookstore, but will now be used for TRUST, dScience , IgNite, The Norwegian Centre for Science Education and NORA.
When is it happening?
Start date: Tuesday, 22nd September 2026
End date: Monday, 1st March 2027
Consequences
- Normal construction noise.
- Particularly noisy work will be carried out outside core hours.
- The Card Centre will be relocated to the Graphic Centre in the basement.
- There will be a rigging area outside the building, facing Frederikkeplassen.
- We may use the area outside the old Card Centre as a storage area. If so, the walkway will be closed.

Livsvitenskapsbygningen
Full-scale test of fire, evacuation and safety systems
What's happening?
Statsbygg will conduct a full-scale test of fire, evacuation, and safety systems for phase 3 of Livsvitenskapsbygningen, but parts of the test will affect the entire building. The test will take place over two days to avoid extended continuous testing. The outdoor alarms will be tested as early as possible to minimise disturbance to neighbours.
When is it happening?
Tuesday, 13th October from 16:00 to 20:00
Wednesday, 14th October from 16:00 to 20:00
Consequences
- The fire alarm will be triggered several times during the test.
- Many of the building’s technical functions, such as fire curtains, sun shading, gas detection systems, ventilation, and elevators will switch to fire mode.

Ventilation shutdown
What's happening?
In connection with the preparation of the completion certificate of Livsvitenskapsbygningen, Statsbygg must carry out a pressure test of the building envelope. To conduct this test the ventilation has to be switched off and partially physically disconnected.
WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?
Start date: Friday 16th October 2026
End date: Sunday 18th October 2026
The ventilation will be back Monday 19th October.
Consequences
- All ventilation on floors 6 and 7 will be shut down for three days: Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
- On floors 2, 3 and 4, ventilation will be shut down in zones 6 and 7.
- Normal laboratory operations will not be possible.
- While the ventilation is off, it is essential that no evaporation or gassing processes occur in the affected areas.
- Office areas will experience poorer air quality than usual

Niels Henrik Abels hus
Replacement of lifts
What's happening?
The Estate Department will replace the old lifts in Niels Henrik Abels hus with new, larger lifts. We will replace one lift at a time so that the other remains operational. Please note that lift capacity will be greatly reduced throughout the work period. We recommend that students and employees who are able to do so use the stairs when going down.
When is it happening?
Start date: Wednesday, 7th January 2026
End date: December 2026
Consequences
- Limited lift capacity throughout the work period. If you are planning a larger event in Abels utsikt, we encourage you to inform participants about the reduced capacity or consider relocating the event.
- We plan to carry out noisy work outside core work hours.
- We will build an enclosure in front of the lift shaft to reduce dust.

Nye Rikshospitalet

What's happening?
Helse Sør-Øst has commenced the work to expand Rikshospitalet at Gaustad. Some construction activities have already begun. The project will continue for several years. Parts of the work will affect the University of Oslo's students and staff in the area.
When is it happening?

Follow signage and advice from traffic wardens. Wear reflective gear during the dark season. Do not cross the road where barriers have been put up

Refurbishment of doors
What's happening?
The Estate Department will be refurbishing a total of 56 doors in Domus Academica, Domus Bibliotheca, Domus Media, Professorboligen and Gymnastikkbygningen. The doors have different maintenance needs, but the common factors are adjustments and painting. Some doors will be closed during the work, but it will not affect access to the buildings or escape routes.
When is it happening?
Start date: week 10, 2026
End date: week 52, 2027
Consesquences
- Occasionally closed doors, but this will not affect access to the buildings or escape routes.
- Minimal noise. Particularly noisy work will be scheduled outside of core hours.
- During dusty work, we will cover the area to prevent the spread of dust.
- Odours from painting.

Svein Rosselands hus
Inspection and flushing of drainage pipes
What's happening?
The Estate Department will inspect and flush the drainage pipes from the basement to the 5th floor in Svein Rosselands hus. On Tuesday, 23rd June, we will clean and empty the pipes from the outside via an inspection hatch to the basement.
The work starts today, on Monday, 22nd June.
When is it happening?
Start date: Monday, 22nd June 2026
End date: Thursday, 25th June 2026
Consequences
- Some noise during the inspection of the drainage pipes.
- Noise outdoors and in the basement during the work on Tuesday, 23rd June.
- If the pipes need to be opened for further inspection, we will have to cut them and shut off the drain system in the affected area.

ZEB-bygningen
Construction of extention
What's happening?
The Institute of Aviation Medicine will be expanding its floor area with an extension by the entrance to ZEB-bygningen, by Moltke Moes vei and Sem Sælands vei. The construction works will start the week after Easter. The extension will have two storeys and a gross floor area of 198 m². It will be built in in-situ concrete, faced in brickwork and adapted to match the existing buildings.
When is it happening?
Start date: Tuesday, 7th April 2026
End date: Wednesday, 31st March 2027
Consequences
- Interventions in the green areas. They will be reinstated and improved when the work is done.
- Noise form excavation, blasting and sheet piling in April, May and June 2026.
- The construction site will be established on the car parking spaces along Moltke Moes vei, and a few spaces on the central car park. They will be unavailable during the construction period.
