Students may take an exam up to three times. Candidates who re-sit any NORA exam must take all parts of the exam again (both written and oral exams), and you cannot combine results from two different semesters.
You will find important information regarding registration for the NORA exams below. Please read through everything before registering for the exam.
Registration
NORA exams are held three times a year. When re-sitting, candidates must retake both parts of the exam (written and oral exam). You do not have to re-submit the obligatory assignments if you have previously submitted them and have had them approved. Candidates cannot combine the oral and written exam results from different semesters.
To register for the re-sit exam, please send an email to the NORA Administration in the following registration periods:
- To re-sit the exams in the spring semester: 1 to 20 January
- To re-sit the exams in the summer semester: 1 to 20 June
- To re-sit the exams in the autumn semester: 1 to 20 August
Examination periods
- Re-sit exams in the spring semester: April/May
- Re-sit exams in the summer semester: July/August
- Re-sit exams in the autumn semester: November/December
Payment
Exam fee
Students who wish to retake the exams must pay an exam fee of 2 500 NOK. This applies to the following candidates:
- Candidates retaking the exam to improve their grade(s)
- Candidates who were registered for, but did not attend, the previous exam(s)
Students do not have to pay the exam fee if they fall under any of the categories below:
- Candidates who had valid absence from the previous exams
- Candidates who failed (“Fail” or F) the previous exam(s)
Candidates must submit valid documentation within 3 days after the exam to be registered with valid absence.
Semester fee for Spring and Autumn semesters
All candidates taking an exam in the spring or autumn semester must also pay the obligatory semester fee to the University of Oslo. This is not the same as the exam fee, and students who are exempt from paying the exam fee must still pay the semester fee.
The payment deadline for the semester fee is September 1 (autumn semester) / February 1 (spring semester). You will receive information on how to make the payment once you have been registered for the re-sit exam.
Exam attempts
Candidates may take an exam up to three times. You cannot retake an exam if you have already used all three exam attempts. You can read more about exam attempts on UiO’s webpages.
Have you previously taken a NORINT exam?
In case a student has taken any overlapping courses at the University of Oslo, for example NORA and NORINT courses, the exam attempts are combined. For example, if you have used one examination attempt in NORINT0110 and one for NORA0110, you have in total used two attempts.
