Short term mobility Erasmus+

A short term mobility stay has a virtual and a physical part. You need to obtain at least 3 ECTS for participation, and the physical part needs to last between 5-30 days.

What can I apply for?

You can only get funding for approved Blended intensive programmes (BIP)

If you have been accepted to a BIP, you have to contact the Erasmus-team to get guidance, minimum two months before the mobility.

How much can I receive?

Students going on a short term mobility will receive 79 EUR each day for day 1-14. The grant is meant to cover some of the extra costs related to studying abroad, but is not meant to finance the exchange period in full.

The University of Oslo is allocated funds for one academic year at a time, and the terms may vary from year to year. For 2026/2027, a maximum of five days of scholarship may be granted.

It is possible to apply for a travel grant. If at least 50% of the trip is done by using green means of transport, you may apply for a green travel grant instead of an ordinary travel grant. Green travel is by train, bus, bicycle or carpooling. Please note that the travel must be from Oslo, to Oslo.

Some students may qualify for a top-up for 100 EUR for short term mobility that lasts from 5 to 14 days, and 150 EUR for short term mobility that lasts from 15 to 30 days.

This might be a possibility for students that have:

  • functional impairment or chronical diseases,
  • refugee status,
  • children,
  • students who belong to Indigenous peoples and national minorities

Please contact the Erasmus-team if you think you are eligible for a top-up grant.

The Erasmus grant is meant to cover some of the extra costs related to studying abroad, rather than finance the semester in full. The University of Oslo is allocated funds per academic year, and conditions and grant rates may change from one year to another. Updated information for 2026/2027 will be published in June.

Grant payment

The grant is paid through the University of Oslo salary system. The amount will be marked as salary, and UiO will automatically collect your electronic tax card. UiO will transfer the amount in NOK to your Norwegian bank account. You are responsible for covering potential transaction costs, for example related to an account abroad.

Withdrawal and grant repayment

  • If the exchange is cancelled, the entire grant must be repaid.
  • If mandatory documentation is not submitted, you must repay the entire grant. This applies to Learning Agreement, Confirmation of Erasmus+ Exchange Period, and the EU survey.

In cases of termination due to illness, you may apply for exemption from repayment of all or part of the Erasmus grant. This must be documented with a medical certificate. Send an email to utveksling@uio.no to clarify the procedure.

For privacy reasons, we ask that you do not send sensitive information by e-mail.

Language Assessment

You can be offered a free online language test before your exchange stay. The test assesses your level in the language you will be studying in, based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). When you return after your mobility, you can take a new test and find out how you have developed linguistically during your mobility.

If you want to take the test, please contact erasmus-uio@admin.uio.no

Sign the Grant Agreement

Before you can receive the grant, you have to sign and submit an Erasmus+ Grant Agreement.

UiO will send you the Grant Agreement when you have been registered by your department/Faculty and before departure.

Learning Agreement

The Learning Agreement states which courses you will take abroad. Read the procedure for recognition at your faculty. The courses for short term mobility do not need to be recognised as part of your degree.

Your faculty at UiO will send you the Learning Agreement by email prior to departure. The Learning Agreement must be signed by you, the agreement coordinator at UiO, and your host institution.

If you make changes in the course selection you must update the Learning Agreement and get the changes approved by UiO.

Confirmation from host institution

The host institution must sign a confirmation as soon as possible after your arrival in order to confirm the duration of the activity.

Send the signed form to erasmus-uio@admin.uio.no
