Course content

Information design (goals, principles, criteria and techniques). Information design tools (XML-based technologies, multimedia). Information design in practice (web design, e-business, informing). Information design as a step towards a sustainable industrial culture.

Learning outcome

To found the work with information on rational goals, principles and criteria. To create learning environment for studying the Internet and other modern information design technologies.

Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.

Prerequisites

Formal prerequisite knowledge

In addition to fulfilling the minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway, you must either have 2MX/2MY/3MZ from Norwegian upper secondary school, or have completed equivalent studies in mathematics at upper secondary school or university level at another educational institution. Overlapping courses

10 credits with INF4210 – Information design (discontinued), 9 credits with IN-ID

Teaching

Two hours of lectures and two hours of tuition weekly. The students must hand in and pass two obligatory tasks before they are admitted to take the exam.

Examination

Oral exam. Graded marks. One half of the grade is based on a semester project.

Other

Note that the first lecture is compulsory. The subject is regarded equal to IN-ID and INF4210 when practicing exam regulations.
