The external examiner is unfortunately ill today and not available for the exam. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience.

We need to find a new date for the exam for everyone next week before Friday, because then I will leave for Japan on a workshop.

Please send me an email as soon as possible to arrange a new time. Possible days are Monday, Wednesday or Thursday next week.

Check that I have approved the mandatory assignment 1. This is required for access to the final exam.

The oral exam will take place Friday 5/6 from 10.00 in room 919 (the usual seminar room). We estimate approximately 25-30 minutes per candidate, but delays may occur. A detailed list of tentative start times for all candidates will be provided at least one week before the exam.

The exact date for the final oral exam has not yet been fixed. However, it will likely be in week 23, so if there is any time that week where you already have another exam, then please let me know as soon as possible.

The oral exam starts with a 15 minutes presentation of your own project. You decide how and what to present, but remember that the external examiner is not familiar with the project beforehand. He has not seen your project description.

After the presentation there will be approximately 15 minutes for questions from the syllabus. The most important topics are then

  • The finite volume method (FV)
    • For diffusion
    • For convection
  • FV discretisation schemes like central, upwind and QUICK. You need to be able to explain
    • the most important properties of FV discretisation schemes
    • what TVD schemes are and how they work
    • what the Pe...

So it will not be possible to arrange meetings to talk about the project. Please send me an email if there is anything you need to discuss.

We are now through all the syllabus and the remaining time of this course is devoted to a student CFD project. If you have not already talked to me about a project, then you need to schedule a time with me this week. A project description needs to be ready by the end of week 13. The project work will be presented on the final oral exam.

There will be no teaching in week 9. Work on the mandatory assignments and spend time on learning OpenFOAM. We will soon start to think about course projects and it is very important that you are all up and running with CFD simulations before that.

The mandatory exercises are given here. This weeks assignment about implementing TVD can bee seen to correspond to the first assignment. The remaining exercises we will get back to soon as they require the use of the OpenFOAM software.

Denne uka starter kurset.
