How to apply for a Master's degree programme for international applicants

The international Master's degree admissions is once a year with studies starting in August. 

International applicants may apply for two prioritized programmes. For available programmes, please see Master's degree programmes offered in English.

Please note: Nordic applicants and applicants who hold a permanent or renewable residence permit in Norway must apply directly to the relevant department. For information about deadlines and how to apply, please refer to each programme's website.

Admission requirements

Applicants for Master's degree programmes are required to have met the following requirements by the application deadline in order to be considered:

  • A completed Bachelor’s degree or a period of study comparable with a Norwegian Bachelor's degree from a recognised institution. Detailed information available in country list (pdf).
  • English proficiency sufficient for Master's degree admissions, please consult the country list (pdf) for details. 
  • Some Master's degree programmes have special admissions requirements, see each programme under "How to apply".
  • Documentation of financing (n/a for EU/EEA citizens and quota applicants). 

Application deadline

  • 1 December is the main deadline
  • 15 April: Extended deadline for citizens from the EU/EEA area + citizens from Switzerland

How to apply for applicants from outside the EU/EEU area + Switzerland:

The application deadline has passed. All supporting documents must have reached the International Education Office by the 1 December deadline.

Late or incomplete applications will not be processed.
