Information to international students

International students can use SiO's health services, with some limitations.

General Practitioner

  • Students who are going to stay in Norway for more than 6 months, and are registered in the National Registry, will be assigned a General Practitioner (GP).
  • You can contact your GP when you need a health check or a consultation.
  • If needed, the GP will refer you to a specialist or a hospital for further treatment.
  • All patients pay a consultation fee when visiting their GP.

If you need a doctor and do not have Norwegian ID number

If you do not have a Norwegian ID number, please call 22 85 33 00 to book an appointment with a doctor.

Bringing medical products into Norway

All non-resident students will need to bring an adequate supply of their prescribed medications for the duration of their stay.

If you are travelling with medicinal products containing narcotic substances for more than 30 days of use, you must apply for permission from the authorities. It is important to send your application well in advance of your planned travel to Norway. We recommend that you send by post the required documents two or three months in advance.

Be aware that postal consignments containing medicinal products is illegal and may be stopped by Norwegian Customs.

Apply for permission from the Norwegian Medical Products Agency (dmp.no)

For more information, please contact narkotikakontroll@dmp.no

Incoming exchange students

Exchange students staying for one semester will not be registered in the National Registry, and should therefore bring adequate supply of their prescribed medications (if applicable), see above.
