GEO4440 – Water Resources Management

Course content

The course provides practice in the use and management of water resources primarily in Norway. Topics covered:
• Legislation on water resource management
• Responsible institutions in Norwegian management
• Use of watercourses for power developments and water supplies
• Emergency preparedness and apportionment of responsibility during dangerous overflows. Flood warning. Flood zone mapping and planning of land use. Erosion and prevention.
• Securing of groundwater reservoirs
• Impact analysis of multi-use of water resources
• International forums of which Norway is a member

Learning outcome

Students will have a foundation for carrying out specialist management work.
