Course content

HYD2010 has been replaced by GEO2010 – Surface hydrology (continued).

The course, together with GEO4020 – Soil- and groundwater (discontinued), covers the water balance of the land surface and introduces the most important components of the hydrological cycle. HYD2010 gives an introduction to the surface components of the hydrological cycle, and discusses meteorological data, snow and snowmelt, runoff, erosion and sediment transport in rivers, hydrological characteristics of the basin and hydrological models. Extreme value estimation, with emphasis on floods and droughts will be briefly introduced.

Learning outcome

To provide a basic understanding of the surface components of the hydrological cycle and to understand the link between meteorological and hydrological processes. In addition to give the student experience in the use of hydrological observations and enable her/him to perform basic hydrological calculations using Excel.

Admission

Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.

If you are not already enrolled as a student at UiO, please see our information about admission requirements and procedures.
