As announced, in the lecture tomorrow (7.5), we will look at the exam from last year. The course code INF9425 refers to the ph.d.-version of INF4420. Question 5 is not included in the INF4420 exam.

Additional setup is needed to run LVS with mimcaps: http://nano.wiki.ifi.uio.no/Magic_to_get_things_working

The relevant steps are:

  • Calibre -> Setup -> Netlist Export ...
  • In the pop-up window insert in the field 'Include': <Your TSMC90nm run path>/Calibre/lvs/source_added
  • Hit 'OK'

The final project deadline is extended by one week. The new deadline is 3.5.2013.

Some hints for writing the report: Slides and outline.

The exam paper will be available in English only and permitted aids will be "Any written material and approved calculator" (same as previous years).

Remember to bring a calculator!

Good luck!

In case you need more time to make some last minute changes to the report, I'm accepting submissions until Monday at 08:00 (but no later, this is the final deadline).

To calculate the total noise, assume the latch has an input capacitance of 100 fF. Use this to calculate the bandwidth.

To calculate the flicker noise, use K = 4.46E-29 for nmos and K = 1.29E-29 for pmos. You don't have to include the flicker noise in the total noise calculation, but calculate the flicker noise corner instead.

Include the ideal amplifier in the layout by reserving an area of 10 µm × 10 µm. Mark this area using the text layer.

The lecture scheduled for April 9. is moved to April 12. at 10:15-12:00, Prolog (the usual time and place for the problem solving class). Instead Kody will use the April 9. lecture for the problem solving class.

To run monte carlo simulations in addition to corners: Select "Monte Carlo Sampling" in the ADE XL dropdown menu. Press the setup button next to the dropdown menu to configure the MC. Check "Save Data to Allow Family Plots". Use the nominal corner when running the monte carlo.

To speed up the simulations by running in parallel: In ADE XL -> Options -> Job Setup ... Set "Max. Jobs" to a value higher than 1.

Published Mar. 13, 2013 2:28 PM

To run the corner simulations, you must manually configure the model path: In the test editor (where you configure the simulation) -> Setup -> Simulation Files ... Then add "<your cadence dir>/models/spectre" to "Include Paths".

For the next project deadline, March 15., you have to demonstrate that your system is working at the schematics level (see assignment text for details). If you can not meet this deadline, you have to discuss with Jørgen beforehand. You have the option of either submitting a written report or demonstrating that your circuit works during the lab.

If you want to do corner simulations of the swithces (suggested), the corner setup for ade xl is in the file models/spectre/tsmcN90rf.pcf in your cadence setup directory.

Due to a seminar, there is no problem solving class on Friday. Kody and Jørgen are available to help you with the project.

Project hints: If your circuit is not working as you expect it to, remember that the (two) ground symbols in Fig. 11.19 are AC ground, and set up a test bench for the switches to see if the switch resistance is adequately low for all input conditions.

Check if your textbook is the American edition (especially if you are using the e-books), the problems may not be the same as the international edition, which is the one we supposed to use. -Kody
