Course content

Seminar in Qualitative Research Methods in Information Systems, with emphasis on action research

Learning outcome

The aim of the course is to provide

  • basic knowledge and skills in action research methods
  • basic knowledge and skills in research design
  • basic knowledge in data analysis and data display, practical implementation and evaluation

Admission

PhD candidates from the University of Oslo should apply for classes and register for examinations through Studentweb.

If a course has limited intake capacity, priority will be given to PhD candidates who follow an individual education plan where this particular course is included. Some national researchers’ schools may have specific rules for ranking applicants for courses with limited intake capacity.

PhD candidates who have been admitted to another higher education institution must apply for a position as a visiting student within a given deadline.

The course is intended for students doing action oriented research thesises.

Overlapping courses

Teaching

3 intensive workshops, each of two days duration. Participation in at least two of three workshops is required.Students prepare their own work to each workshop.

Examination

  • 1 hour written examination
  • Participation in at least two of three workshops is required
  • Two of three written assignments must be passed.

Resit an examination

This course does not offer new examination in the beginning of the subsequent term for candidates who withdraw during an ordinary examination or fail an ordinary examination.

General information about new examination

Withdrawal from an examination

It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.

The course is considered equal to INF5570 – Action Research Workshop (discontinued), INF5571 – Action Research Workshop (continued) and INF9571 – Action Research Workshop when practicing exam regulations.
