To get started with Macaulay2 I recommend using the web version and its tutorials to be found here:

https://macaulay2.math.gatech.edu/#home

Try clicking through the Welcome Tutorial, Basic Introduction to Macaulay2, and Mathematicians' Introduction to Macaulay2.

If you want to try to figure out how to install it on your own computer go to the main webpage: https://macaulay2.com

Also consider getting the Jupyter interface to run since it is a lot more user friendly than working in the command line.

We will follow the books Ellingsrud and Atiyah Macdonald (available from the library here). Jørgen Rennemo's notes from 2024 are also a useful summary (see the course calendar webpage). The schedule will be updated with hand written lecture notes and the textbook pages covered. A preliminary sketch of the schedule can be found on the course schedule in TP.
