Welcome to MAT4460/MAT9460 this fall!

As background literature for the course we will use the Karen Strung's book, which is freely available via the Syllabus/reading list in Leganto above on the home page of the course. The curriculum will at least cover chapters 1-5, sections 6.1 and 8.1 in Strung’s book, with a few exceptions, and a note about Kaplansky's density theorem.  This note, as well as some other material, will  be distributed to participants during the semester. The final curriculum will be fixed by mid-November.

Each week will some exercises for the following week be published on the home page, usually on Thursdays or Fridays. Sketch of solutions (of some of the exercises) will be made available after one week or two, and be discussed in class if needed.

The deadline for handing in the compulsory assignment in Canvas is planned to be Thursday, October 22, at 14.30. The assignment will be made available at least two weeks before. Please take contact as soon as possible if this date is problematic for you. Participants enrolled for MAT9460 will in addition have to make a presentation of a given topic during the third week of November.
