Here is a suggested solution to the exam. Note that in statistics there is often not one clearcut answer, so for instance for questions 2c and 3c alternative answers may be OK (and this suggested solution is generally more extensive than required).

We hope to complete the grading by end of week 26.

Hope you managed to get something out of also the second part of the course despite all the trouble we had to go through. Hope you have a nice summer!

f you have any questions concerning the exam assignment, you should visit the following link:

https://www.mn.uio.no/om/hms/koronavirus/brukerstotte-eksamen-v20.html

Your questions will then be forwarded to me by the administration, and I will answer questions on Tuesday 2nd, Friday 5th and the last day Monday 8th of June during office hours. As in usual exams, I cannot help you solving the exercises, but you can ask for clarification or about technical issues concerning the exam.

If there are issues raised in your questions, that are of interest to all students, I will post a message here on the semester page, so make sure you check it regularly during the exam period.

Finally, I just want to wish you all good luck!

As previously announced the home exam will be made available through Inspera on Friday May 29th, 2:30PM with a deadline for submission on Monday June 8th, 2:30PM.

The problems in exam will involve analyses of data sets using R (preferably) similarly to the mandatory assignments. You need thus figure out the R commands yoursself, but you should find sufficient information on how to do this from the lectures and exercises on the course pages.

But in contrast with the mandatory assignments the questions are in general quite specific and not open-ended as in some of the questions in the mandatory assignments. In addition you are asked to be more specific about the theory behind the procedures you use, more similar to regular exam problems.

For the solution you hand in you can use latex or some other text processing program, but it can also be handwritten ("digital hand drawing"). The solution should also include R-commands...

For those attending the course STK4900. The exam is run as a 7-day individual home exam with all aids allowed. The tasks will be similar to a mandatory task. Collaboration will not be considered cheating, but you must have formulated and written the answer that is submitted, and it should reflect your understanding of the syllabus. The grade will be pass/fail, and the limit for passing will be 40% (like E at the regular exam). The exam is published in Inspera at the original examination date and must be submitted as one PDF file in Inspera within the same time 7 days later. The faculty works on solutions for students who may not have access to a computer/network

For those attending the course STK9900. The form of the exam and the rules for answering and submitting the answer will be the same as for STK4900. As for ordinary PhD-courses the grade will be pass/f...

Just a reminder: It is absolutely OK if you send emails about the course when the zoom-meetings are closed. But there might be a time delay before we answer.

Then I have also set up a zoom-meeting - for the pen and pencil exercises. It starts12:15 and end 16:00.

The ID is Meeting ID: 831 426 1325

Please join!

To further emulate regular teaching maybe you can set up smaller zoom-meetings among yourself. If you do not know anybody to work in such a meeting send me an email and will connect you.

Interesting to see how this works out!

Best wishes for the remainder of STK4900/9900!

Due to coronavirus epidemics, datalabs in course week 2 (calendar week 12) will be given digitally.
We will use Zoom. Here is UiO's guide on how to install and sign in.

Note:
- Please install "Zoom Client for Meetings" so that we can help you directly with remote access function.
- Please note that you can log in into Zoom by using your UiO account.

During the hours of datalab (group 1: 12:15 - 14:00, group 2: 14:15 - 16:00), there will be a Zoom meeting hosted by Vinnie. You will be able to join this meeting by using the meeting ID: 675-215-9818.

The routine of datalab remains unchanged from week 1. Students are expected to work with daily computer exercises on their own or in groups (highly encouraged). When they have questions, Vinnie will try to answer them.

Students will be able to work in groups digitally within the Zoom environment b...

A podcast for the slides for Lecture 6 is now available under Schedule - Lectures.

There is also opened a discussion under Canvas where you can ask questions and make comments to the lecture. I will then answer these on the same discussion page.

For the exercises we consider different options. We can set up similar discussion pages. We also consider setting up meetings on zoom. Zoom may also be used for smaller meetings where some of you team up to discuss the problems.

And of couse we are available on email as usual (that is Vinnie and Sven Ove, Jonas has to look after his smalll children),

Although the universities have been closed we have obtained a dispensation to run STK4900/9900 on a purely digital basis next week as announced yesterday.

We are still working on how to implement this, but as announced lectures and exercises will appear on the web-page as in week 1. Also we will be available on internet in the exercise time after lunch to answer questions you have.

Due to the corona epidemics our department has decided that there shall be no classroom teaching in the coming weeks. Thus there will be no lectures in Auditorium 1 nor computer exercises in IT-auditorium 3 nor "pen-and-paper" exercises in Seminarrom 123 (or elsewhere for that matter).

Slides for the planned lectures and exercises with solutions will appear on the course website as if there was regular teaching. We consider extended digital services but it is not clear what we will manage.

The final exam will be a written exam.

The date and place is as given on the courses webpages May 29 at 2:30 PM (4 hours) at Silurveien. To take the exam you need to have both mandatory assignments accepted.

Here is an example of how one can write a mandatory assignment in a reasonable way. It was presented during the computer lab class today. The LaTeX source file can be downloaded here.

In examples and exercises we will use the statistics program R. Many of you will prefer to use R-studio.

Both R and R-studio can be downloaded to your computer free of charge on windows, mac and linux-platforms from http://cran.r-project.org/  If you have problems installing R help will be given at computer exercises.

It is possible to learn a lot from the slides of the lectures, which will be made available on this page when we get closer to teaching weeks. The recommended textbook is Vittinghof, E., Glidden, D., Shiboski,S.C. and McCullogh, C. (2012), Regression methods in biostatistics, Springer. Many references in lecture slides and exercises will be given to this book.

The book is available as e-book, and can be freely accessed and down loaded as a pdf file as long as you are on the UiO net

Welcome to STK4900/9900! The first intensive part of the course takes place in week 7, from 10th-14th of February. The second part is in week 12, from 16th-20th of March.

As a preparation to the first part of the course, the students are encouraged to recapitulate the main themes of Chapters 6, 7, 10 and 11 in the course book for STK1000; see here for details (or the similar material in another introductory book in statistics).

We will have lectures every day from 9.15-12.00, then there will be a lunch break, followed by R-exercises and "pen-and-pencil exercises" in groups. The exercises are from 12.15-16.00. One group will have R-exercises 12.15-14.00 and pen-and-paper exercises 14.15-16.00; the second group will start with exercises 12.15-14.00 and have R-exercises 14.15-15.30.
