Course content

This course is discontinued after autumn 2015. Examination is offered Autumn 2015 only for students who have passed the obligatory teaching from an earlier semester, or for students who already have a result in this course and wish to improve their grade.

The course provides an overview of the main fields of organizational and personnel psychology. It focuses on topics such as organisational justice, the use of power, personnel selection and the employment relationship, communication and cooperation, work-related attitudes (e.g. commitment, organisational citizenship behaviour), organisation and its culture, human resource development as well as careers and career management. The course treats these topics either from the perspective of the individual, from the perspective of the group or by looking at processes and systems in the organization such as culture and human resource management. The seminar serves for broadening the knowledge and for showing its application.

  • Understand research results presented in a scientific context

  • Analyse research results against a theoretical background
  • Analyse practical situations against a theoretical background
  • Apply theoretical knowledge for solving problems
  • Apply theoretical knowledge for making decisions

General competence

You should be able to:

  • Apply selected organisational and personnel psychology theories in the field
  • Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of their Application

Formal prerequisite knowledge

No obligatory prerequisites beyond the minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway.


Access to teaching

A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.

Examination is offered autumn 2015 only for students with a result in this course from an earlier semester. You must have passed the obligatory teaching in order to retake the exam. To sign up for a retake of this exam, please contact SV-info by e-mail. Please send the e-mail from your student account.

Grading scale

Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

Explanations and appeals

It is recommended to request an explanation of your grade before you decide to appeal.



The deadline to request an explanation is one week after the grade is published. For oral and practical examinations, the deadline is immediately after you have received your grade.

The explanation should normally be given within two weeks after you have asked for it. The examiner decides whether the explanation is to be given in writing or verbally.
