- TEK4802 – Healthcare Technology Implementation
In addition, the following course is mandatory for students on this programme option:
An English-language version of this course will be available.
Elective courses
The elective courses let you tailor the degree to your chosen master's thesis, your own interests and career goals. You can for instance go deeper into machine learning, medical instrumentation, robotics, health economics or biosensing technologies.
The list below suggests well suited electives, including some that have been opened specifically for students of the programme. Please note that some courses recommend that you have specific previous knowledge. You choose your electives together with your supervisor.

You can also take other courses at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Humanities that you meet the prerequisites for. Some courses have a limited number of places.
The master's thesis
The master's thesis is the heart of the programme. Thesis topics grow out of the close collaboration between UiO and our partners at Oslo University Hospital, Akershus University Hospital, Sunnaas Rehabilitation Hospital and industry partners.
You start preparing your thesis already in the first semester, with an equivalent of a 10 ECTS module. This will serve as a red thread throughout your degree, helping you make informed choices about elective courses.
Along the way you will experience different stages of a healthcare technology project: from literature review and experimental design to development, testing and communication of results.
Progression requirements
The standard study time for the master's programme is two years, or up to four years if you apply for part-time studies. If you use more time, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the policies for reduced progression of studies. Your admission to the programme may be cancelled if you do not register for the first semester of the study programme and you are absent without a valid reason for more than one semester.
Honours certificate
Are you academically ambitious? It is possible to supplement your master's degree with an honours certificate worth 20 credits. You take the certificate concurrently with the master's programme.
Recognition of master's courses from former education
If you are admitted to the master's programme and you have completed master's courses outside the University of Oslo, you may apply to have these courses recognised as part of your degree. Please contact the Department of Technology Systems for more information.
Diploma and degree
This programme leads to the following degree: Master of Health Technology
The diploma is issued when you have completed the courses that meet the requirements for a degree. Read more about diplomas.
