INF5430 – Advanced digital systems design
Schedule, syllabus and examination date
The course provides an in-depth coverage of systematical development and synthesis of advanced digital integrated circuits with emphasis on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology. The course will cover digital hardware system design, digital arithmetic, dynamic partial reconfiguration of FPGA, high level synthesis and functional verification.
The candidate should after this course have an in-depth knowledge of digital integrated circuit hardware design. The emphasis is on FPGA technology, but most of the design techniques can also be applied to ASIC devices. The student should be familiar with the latest state-of-the-art system on chip (SoC) design methodologies, including high-level synthesis and partial run-time reconfiguration. Students should be able to learn the benefits and drawbacks of the various design methods for solving a problem. Through practical assignments, experience will be achieved from both using tools as well as designing their own system.
Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.
If you are not already enrolled as a student at UiO, please see our information about admission requirements and procedures.
Recommended previous knowledge
Experience with digital integrated circuit design, VHDL and FPGA as given in the course
INF3430 – Digital systemkonstruksjon - Digital systemkonstruksjon is highly recommended.
10 credits overlap with INF9430 – Advanced digital systems design
2 hours of lectures and possibly 2 hours of lectures/assignment training per week. Mandatory assignments must be completed during the course. Rules for mandatory assignments.
Oral or written exam (4 h). (Written if the student number is high.) The mandatory assignments must be approved prior the exam.
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
Explanations and appeals
Resit an examination
Students who can document a valid reason for absence from the regular examination are offered a postponed examination at the beginning of the next semester.
Re-scheduled examinations are not offered to students who withdraw during, or did not pass the original examination.
Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
It is strongly recommended to attend the first lecture since it will be given important information.
