forlesning/lessons
2 i Mikosch.
Last time (6., 13. and 14. Oct.) we continued our study of the Poisson process, focusing on the distributions of arrival times and inter-arrival times. We showed that, conditional on the number of events in a given time interval, the arrival times have the same distribution as the order statistics of independent random variables. This property was used to derive distributional identities for generalized total claim amounts, with applications in insurance.
We then studied some asymptotic properties of the renewal process. We proved the strong law of large numbers for renewal processes and the elementary renewal theorem.
In the next lessons (October 20 and 21), we will discuss mixed Poisson processes as models for claim numbers. We will then continue with the modelling of the total claim amount (see Chapter 3 of Mikosch’s book).
The exercise solutions (Exercises 6/7) will be presented on Wednesday, October 21, from 13:15 to 14:00.
