Admission for Nordplus/Nordlys students

Nordplus is a mobility programme for students at institutions of higher education in the Baltic and Nordic regions. Students at universities in the Nordic countries which do not have a Nordplus network partner at the University of Oslo may still be eligible to apply through the Nordlys network.

How to apply

You must apply through your home institution, so first contact your Nordplus coordinator. After nomination by your home institution, you must complete your application for exchange at UiO in the University of Oslo online application service. Nominated students will receive an email with instructions on how to apply. Please also see How to apply in the UiO online application service "Søknadsweb"

The University of Oslo is in the process of implementing an online nomination system. Partner institutions may read more about the online nomination service for partner universities

Deadlines

The application must be completed online before:

  • 1 May for the autumn semester (August - December)
  • 1 November for the Spring semester (January - June)

To ensure that admitted students have enough time to prepare for their exchange, we recommend that the institutions nominated the students at least 2-4 weeks before these deadlines.

Courses

The University of Oslo offers more than 800 courses taught in English. Nordic students who speak a Scandinavian language may also choose from the list of courses taught in Norwegian.

The course descriptions will give you detailed information about each course, when it is taught, the syllabus, form of examination, etc. The lists are updated for the coming semester in late November/mid-May.

Nordplus students who wish to follow courses that are not included in the network they apply through, must ensure that their home institution will recognise such courses as part of their degree. The student must also contact the department/faculty he/she is applying to, to ensure permission to follow courses at other departments/faculties. If permission is granted, that department/faculty will facilitate contact between the student and the other department/faculty.

The University of Oslo uses the ECTS credit system: A full semester work load should give 30 credits.  For further information see academic system.

After admission

Letters of Admission will be sent out in May for the Autumn semester and November for the Spring semester.

Student housing must be booked before 1 June for the Autumn semester and 1 November for the Spring semester. Students who follow the directions are guaranteed housing in one of the student residences. See student housing

The Autumn semester usually starts in the second week of August and ends in the third week of December. The Spring semester usually starts in the second week of January and ends in the third week of June. Erasmus students should arrive in Oslo the week before the start of a semester to ensure that they will be present for the Orientation Week for new students.

Most questions regarding practical issues are answered on our web pages for new international students.
