Students at universities in the Nordic countries which do not have a Nordplus network partner at the University of Oslo may still be eligible to apply for exchange through the Nordlys network.
Nomination and application
You must apply through your home institution, so first contact your university's Nordplus coordinator or International Office.
Nomination for semester exchange
UiO's partner institutions must nominate students in the University of Oslo online nomination system.
Application for semester exchange
Nominated students must then complete their application for exchange in the online application service for students (Søknadsweb).
Deadlines
You must be nominated and complete the application in the application portal "Søknadsweb" before:
- 1 May for the autumn semester (August - December)
- 15 October for the spring semester (January - June)
Letters of admission will be available online before mid May for the autumn semester and in late October for the spring semester (about one week after the deadline).
Courses in English or Norwegian
The University of Oslo offers a wide range of courses taught in English. Nordic students who speak a Scandinavian language may also choose from the list of courses taught in Norwegian.
The course descriptions will give you detailed information about each course, when it is taught, the syllabus, form of examination, etc. The lists are updated for the coming semester in late November/ late May.
Students coming through the Nordlys network may choose courses across faculties and departments, but admission to courses is not granted. Please note that some courses have pre-requisites or other restrictions, and admission will depend on the student's academic background, number of places, etc.

After admission
Letters of admission will be available online for students with complete applications about one week after the deadlines (early May for the autumn semester and late October for the spring semester).
Student housing
Students must apply for student housing on the SiO website before 1 June for the autumn semester and 1 November for the spring semester in order to be prioritized for single housing in one of the SiO student residences.
There is a limited number of housing units available for incoming exchange students in the autumn semester, and we cannot guarantee that all students will receive a housing offer from SiO.

Please note:
- The availability of courses cannot be guaranteed at the time of admission, and that admission to courses depends on the student's academic background and the availability of the courses in question.

- For questions concerning courses offered in other foreign languages than English, please see the list of courses taught in Norwegian, or contact the relevant faculty.
Start of the semester
The autumn semester normally starts in August, and the spring semester in January. See website for international students and start of studies for details.
Erasmus+ students should arrive in Oslo the week before the start of the lectures to ensure that they will be present for the orientation activities for new international students.
