Academic Demarcations: Disciplines and Interdisciplinarity

Domenico di Michelino: Seven Liberal Arts. Birmingham Museum of Art

International Conference on 13-14 September 2012 at the University of Oslo.

Is academia becoming interdisciplinary? Or do disciplines still condition our research and teaching in profound ways? Is disciplinarity perhaps even an inherent operative mode of modern academia? If so, how and to what extent should our institutions provide for interdisciplinarity?

At this international conference researchers from a variety of disciplines (!) will address the structural boundaries and epistemic frames which condition worldviews and career paths in research and higher education. We are proud to present the following keynote speakers:

  • Andrew Abbott
  • Rudolf Stichweh
  • Sheila Jasanoff
  • Lars Qvortrup

Please consult the call for papers for a more elaborate formulation of the conference theme.
