The start of studies for the new master's students in Geosciences takes place in August. Here, you will find an overview of the things you need to know and do and a program for the welcome week.

Tasks for the first week
- The welcome meeting on Wednesday 16 August is mandatory in order to keep the study place.
- Participate in the buddy programme, and get to know your fellow students and the campus, see the programme below.
- Sign up for 1st-semester courses by Thursday 17 August at 23:59 (main admission for courses).
- Register for mandatory HSE e-learning courses. Be aware that HMS0507 - Fire Safety requires personal attendance.
We are located in the Geology building at Blindern campus in Oslo. You will find information on how to get there with public transportation, here.
Buddy programme for new master's students
After the information meeting and the meetings within the programme options, there will be buddy activities taking place from Wednesday 14 August 2024 from 15:00 til late Friday.
Participating in the buddy programme is optional, but we recommend that you participate.

Start of studies at Geosciences
Welcome as a new student at the Department of Geosciences! There will be a welcome meeting for all new students in the master programme Geosciences and CS: Geoscience with useful information about the studies and study start.
Deadlines at the start of studies
- 14 August: Mandatory welcome meeting.
1 September:
- Registration and payment of the semester fee in Studentweb.
- Apply for special examination arrangements.
- Last deadline for enrollment to courses.
Start of studies events for all UiO students
Visiting the islands in the Oslo Fjord is a must. Join us on an excursion to one of these - Hovedøya!
Take a break from exam preparations and the library, and experience one of Oslo's most beautiful gardens with a guided tour.
Student activities at the department
The Geosciences Subject Committee
The Geosciences Subject Committee (GFU) consists of elected students who promote the GEO students' interests both academically and socially. GFU is also the contact point between the students and the Department of Geosciences.
GÆA NORVEGICA
One of UiO's by far oldest associations for students can be found at the Department of Geosciences. GÆA Norvegica was founded as early as 1935, and since then has brought the students together both academically and socially.
