Elective course, spring 2017: Ancient Literature in Translation

Dear students,

In the coming spring semester 2017 there will be a course taught at IFIKK that may be of interest and relevance to you. The course is called “Ancient Literature in Translation”. As the title suggests, it is a course (taught in lecture format) the focus of which are some of the great and most important classics of Greek and Roman literature, read and taught in English translation. Aside from a general overview of the history of ancient Greek and Latin literature, we will read some of the most important and most influential classics from ancient literature (Homer’s Odyssey, some of Sophocles’ tragedies, Plato’s Symposium, Vergil’s Aeneid, and Ovid’s Metamorphoses), and students will also gain insight into the importance and influence of ancient literature in later periods to this day. All lectures are podcasted and made available through Fronter (therefore attendance is not required – but, of course, highly recommended).
