MBV9480 – Proteomics Basic Course

Course content

The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to basic proteomics techniques.

Learning outcome

After successfully completing this course, you will have the following competences:

  • Practical and theoretical knowledge in proteomics.
  • Knowledge about common workflows for the large-scale analysis of proteins.
  • Fundamental knowledge about quantification of proteomes.
  • Understanding how to identify proteins from mass spectrometry data.
  • Able to evaluate MS/MS data including de novo sequencing.
  • Insight into the analysis of post-translational modifications and protein-protein interactions.
  • On-hands experience with in-gel digestions, LC-ESI and MALDI mass spectrometry and protein identification.

Admission

PhD candidates from the University of Oslo should apply for classes and register for examinations through Studentweb.

If a course has limited intake capacity, priority will be given to PhD candidates who follow an individual education plan where this particular course is included. Some national researchers’ schools may have specific rules for ranking applicants for courses with limited intake capacity.

Teaching

  • Lectures - 2 hours every day for 5 days
  • Laboratory - 3 hours every day for 5 days

The course is given as a one-week intensive course and consists of a series of lectures followed by 3 hours training in lab. each day.

Both the lectures and the practical training in the lab are mandatory.

Withdrawal from an examination

It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.

It will also be counted as one of the three attempts to sit the exam for this course, if you sit the exam for one of the following courses: Error: java.lang.NullPointerException and Error: java.lang.NullPointerException
