About the artist

With a voice that The New York Times has described as “a smooth, dark alto,” Lizz Wright has established herself as one of the most distinctive voices in modern American music. She moves effortlessly between jazz, soul, and gospel, with an expression that is both grounded and deeply moving.

Her breakthrough came early, with a touring tribute to Billie Holiday and her debut album Salt (2003), which topped the U.S. jazz charts. Since then, she has built an impressive catalogue. In recent years, Wright has taken full control of her artistry through her own record label, and with the album Shadow (2024), she reveals an even more stripped-down and personal side. Here, she explores themes of love, loss, and belonging, with a sound shaped by acoustic instruments and warm, organic arrangements.
