TSD Prices

Here are the prices for all standard TSD services.

The basic TSD package contains:
  • 1 TiB storage and backup
  • 1 Windows server VM
  • 1 Linux VM
  • Standard Software
  • Access to use the Consent system
  • TSD Dataloader
  • Access to use "Nettskjema"
The prices are in NOK without merverdiavgift (moms, mva, VAT). We invoice our services once a year in October. The Service Period is from October last year to October current year.

Special Cases

Since UiO has financed the development of TSD, the services are to a large extent, free for UiO affiliated users. For all other institutions, the fees are depending on the data controller. However, there are two cases where the UiO fees can be applied even if the data controller is not UiO affiliated:

  • Research project fully financed by UiO
    The research project and the researchers are fully financed by UiO (or by external funding allocated for UiO activities) but the data controller is affiliated with another institution.
    The prices will be the same as with a UiO affiliated data controller. This means that if there is already a data processing agreement between UiO and the data controller, that agreement also covers the data in TSD. If there is no data processing agreement between the two institutions, the data processing agreement provided by TSD for the data controller can be used.

    For example:
    The research project is fully financed by UiO, the researchers are employed by UiO but the data is owned by OUS. The principal investigator downloads, completes, and signs the data and usage agreement for OUS project and specifies in the form that the project will have an UiO address for invoicing. Then the principal investigator applies for a TSD project via Nettskjema. The scanned data and usage agreement will be attached to the electronic form for the TSD project application and in the box for supplementary information, it will be stated that this is a fully financed UiO project with data from OUS.
  • Research project partially financed by UiO
    The research project is a collaboration between UiO and other institutions (one of which is the data controller), and the finances come from the partners or from an external funding agency.
    If the partners share responsibilities, results, personnel, and eventually finances, the partners can share their infrastructure resources. Because TSD is a UiO resource, the data controller institution and the other partner institutions are entitled to use the resources. In these cases the prices will be the same as if the UiO would be the data controller and the transfer of funds between the partners does not require VAT.
    To prove the shared responsibilities in collaboration, the partners must jointly sign a document describing (i) the institutions involved in the partnership; (ii) what each partner will contribute in terms of resources and infrastructure; (iii) how is the financing in the partnership (i.e. the costs that each partner will have in connection with the project and the source of the funds to cover them).
    In case the funds come from an external research funding agency to support the activities of professionals from both the university and other institutions, the document must formalize the collaboration between the university and all the other external partners. The format of the collaboration agreement is free, but we have created a template for simplicity. Normally the institution that leads the research project, as the principal investigator, takes the initiative to write the document and formalize the cooperation. Then, a representative for all the other partner institutions shall sign the document. If the partner institution is UiO, then the department leadership shall decide who signs.
    For other partner institutions, the representative shall be appointed according to the local policy (if the partner institution is OUS, info can be found here). Once the document is in place the principal investigator shall make sure that the data agreement is signed by the data controller, while the address given for invoicing is at UiO. TSD will invoice the partner at UiO, which in turn will invoice the data controller and eventually the other external partners.

    For example:
    The principal investigator of a project is from UiO, the data controller is OUS, and the professionals working at the research project are paid 50 percent by UiO and 50 percent by OUS. The funds from an external research agency support personnel and infrastructure of both UiO and OUS.
    The principal investigator downloads and completes the collaboration agreement to formalize the collaboration between UiO and OUS. They sign the document and make sure that the correct person from OUS signs as a partner in the collaboration.
    The principal investigator downloads, completes, and signs the data and usage agreement for OUS project and specifies in the form that the project will have UiO address for invoicing.
    The next step is that the principal investigator will apply for a TSD project via Nettskjema. The scanned data and usage agreement and the collaboration agreement are attached to the TSD project application and in the open text box, it will be stated that this is a collaboration between UiO and OUS.
