SOSGEO4022 – Advanced regression analysis

Course content

This course focuses on advanced regression analysis. This encompasses the usage of non-linear models (e.g. logistic regression), panel regressions (e.g. fixed-effects models), and a broad class of methods associated with causal research designs (e.g. difference-in-differences and regression discontinuity). The course also introduces spatial regression models suitable when units are not spatially independent.

Learning outcome

Knowledge objectives

Throughout this course, you will acquire in-depth knowledge about

  • regression analytic models for independent and correlated data
  • analytical strategies for quantitative data

Skill objectives

Throughout this course, you will learn how to

  • conduct multiple linear regressions: including interaction with categorical and continuous variables, polynomials and other transformations, and piecewise splines
  • analyse correlated data, including panel-, clustered- and spatial data: a) fixed effects, b) hierarchical models, c) spatial error and spatial lag models
  • develop causal models: DiD and RD

General competence

This course will enable you to

  • conduct quantative analysis of a high standard and present it in written form

Admission to the course

Admission to the course is dependent on admission to a master’s degree programme at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography.

The course is open to master specialisation in didactics for social science in the Teacher Education Programme (Lektorprogrammet) - please see the link for information regarding admission.
