Course description
The demand for "classic" project management principles and methods in research activities is growing, with sectors outside of academia leading the charge. However, it is essential to note that research projects have unique characteristics. These projects are inherently complex and uncertain, often involving significant levels of creativity and innovation, making predicting outcomes challenging.
Given these challenges, this module will address the following critical issues:
○ The similarities and differences between "classic" and research project management.
○ The elevated risk levels in research projects and strategies for mitigating those risks.
This course will give you an overview of fundamental project management principles and learn how to apply these to academic research settings. Participant will also learn how to utilize this knowledge into transferable skills.
Instructor
Hiwa Målen is a senior advisor at the research and innovation department at University of Bergen. He has a background as a researcher and have extensive project management expertise with several years' experience as a project manager in the private sector. Målen is affiliated to NARMA (Norwegian Association of Research Management) and this course is a part of their mission for best-practice exchange for research administration across Norwegian higher education institutions.
Duration and course fee
The course lasts 3 hours. The course is free of charge, but registration is required.
