Research and educational leave at the Faculty of Social Science

The purpose of a research and educational leave is to strengthen the opportunity for continuous research activities. Permanent employees in a scientific position can apply for a research and educational leave.

Application form (word) - The application must be sent to the head of department/center.

Newly employed female associate professors from units with special challenges in relation to gender balance in professorships earn the right to apply for 12 months of teaching and research term already after three years (then normal accrual), ref. the faculty's action plan for gender equality (pdf) (Norwegian).

Full earning of the right to apply for a teaching and research term presupposes full teaching and administrative duties, including fulfillment of conditions in the employment contract relating to pedagogical competence and requirements for passing a language test. Reduced duty, e.g. in case of opt-out, the earning of teaching and research term reduces proportionally. Cf. Section 4 Earning. Granting of an application for a teaching and research term is assessed based on the unit's overall resource needs. Applicants' wishes regarding when the term is to be taken can be rejected if this has adverse consequences for the unit's teaching. Cf. section 3 Allocation.

The deadline for applying for research and educational leave is one year before the planned leave.
