Explanation and comments in Inspera

There are different practices for how an explanation is given to a candidate at the University of Oslo. The examiner can enter and submit an explanation to a candidate via Inspera, but the rutines should be clarified with the examination officer. The explanation, comments and private notes will be stored together with the answer for two years.

Explanation

Examiner

The examiner can write an explanation in the designated field in the tab "Vurdering". When the explanation is added, the examiner can click "Lagre som utkast".

This gives the message "Send til kandidaten", but this can only be done after the assessment is completed in Inspera.

NB! It is possible for the examiner to send the explanation to the candidate when the exam is completed in Inspera. It is important to note that this is not the same as when the exam result is published for the candidate in Studentweb. To enable availability of the explanation for the candidate in Inspera after the exam result is published for the candidate in Studentweb, the explanation must be submitted after the exam result is published in FS.

If there are several examiners, all examiners will be able to see what is added to the explanation field. This is how it appears to the examiner - see picture.

See Insperas guidance for the examinerExplanation

Candidate

To view the explanation, the candidate goes to the "Arkiv" and clicks "Se flere detaljer'. The candidate does not receive an email from Inspera saying that that the explanation is available; this must be communicated to the candidate outside Inspera.

This is how it appears to the candidate - see picture.

Examination Administrator

The examination administrator cannot send an explanation to the candidate. Once the examiner has sent the explanation to the candidate, the examination administrator can view it under the tab "Vurdering".

Comments

Examination Administrator

The examination administrator can choose to share  examiners' comments with candidates for a test.

This is not recommended as this will apply to all candidates taking the test.

Note that the comments will be available to the candidates once assessment is completed in Inspera, and that this is not the same time as when the exam results become available for the candidates in Studentweb.

It is is important that the examiners are informed if this function is activated.

This is how it appears to the examination administrator - see picture.

Examiner

The examiner(s) will be able to see whether the comments are private or shared. The examiners must be aware of the setting the examination administrator has chosen.

If the comments are to be shared, the examiner(s) add the comments, which will be visible to the candidates once the assessment is approved.

This is how it appears to the examiner - see picture.

See Insperas guidance for examiners:

Candidate

The candidate goes to the "Arkiv" and sees that there is a comment on the assignment(s). The candidate does not receive an email from Inspera saying that comments are available; this must be communicated to the candidate outside Inspera.

This is how it appears to the candidate - see picture.

Private notes

The examiner can also add private notes. No one else has access to read these, but they can be pasted into an explanation sent to the student.

This is how it appears to the examiner - see Picture.
