Knowledge development for a changing world

The title of this text is also the working title of the Faculty’s new strategy. The draft will be sent to all employees through within Mid-September.

The strategy process started about a year ago when the Departments received a discussion document. In return, we received over 300 pages of feedback. This feedback has been put together to form a draft of the strategy for the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. the strategy’s subtitle “Science and technology towards 2030”. Hence long-term goals have to be set.

Since the strategy will apply until 2030, it needs to focus on the big picture and not be too detailed. The draft describes the long overarching lines that the Faculty is working towards. It also describes the areas that need further development. The strategy will start by stating that the foundation of our business is the free independent thought.

I encourage you all to read and comment on the draft. You can give your feedback in two ways. Either through the Head of Departments to the Faculty or at the open meetings where the Dean will be present. These meetings will take place in October. Our plan is that the Faculty Board enacts the new strategy in December and that it will be launch in January/February 2019.

The strategy draft will only be available in Norwegian. I encourage those who can read Norwegian to include those who cannot. And those of you who cannot read Norwegian, don’t hesitate to ask others! The final version of the strategy will, of course, be available in English as well as Norwegian.

We look forward to the feedback and discussions about our common future!
