NVivo and .mp4a files

NVivo has been observed to not work with .mp4a files. These files may be stored by the Nettskjema Diktafon application and the extension in the filename, ".mp4a", is adopted by Apple but is otherwise not considered standard.

On top of this, NVivo apparently decides on which format a media file is looking at the file extension -- which it being a Windows application also is not the most robust approach. We have previously notified QSR International of this issue.

To resolve the issue, the media itself does not need to be "converted" to another format -- renaming the file to end with ".m4a" (no "p") instead of ".mp4a" will allow NVivo to work with the file.

High CPU use when pausing video

VLC may use a lot of CPU when video is paused.  If a user disconnects from the VMware session, the process may still use lots of CPU.  This can affect other users.

Note that f4transkript uses VLC as the back-end video player.  So this note is also true when transcribing video with f4transkript.

The recommended action is for the user to quit VLC and/or f4transkript altogether when not being active inside TSD.
