Teaching
The course lasts for 3 weeks in the beginning of the fall semester with a total teaching workload of 120 hours (organized teaching and self-study). The general part constitutes 1 week (40 hours teaching load), while the module-based part constitutes 2 weeks (80 hours teaching load). Attendance in the course is compulsory.
The teaching includes lectures and student-active learning. The module-based teaching consists of laboratory exercises (sample preparation, chromatography, extraction, organic synthesis, spectroscopy etc.), project based training in scientific writing and data analysis (epidemiology, techniques for interviews, scientific literature). The modules are elective and chosen in collaboration with supervisor according to the topic of the Master`s thesis, equivalent to 80 hours of teaching workload. Each module will include compulsory activities (laboratory journals, project reports, presentations).
Compulsory participation in the course must be completed and approved and compulsory submissions must be approved to sit the exam. Read more about what applies in the event of absence from compulsory activities (only in Norwegian).
As the teaching involves laboratory and/or field work, you should consider taking out a separate travel and personal risk insurance. Read about your insurance cover as a student.
Access to teaching: A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.
Compulsory participation and approved assignments are valid for 1 year. If you change your master`s project, you must complete the elective modules relevant to the new research project.
Examination
Portfolio examination consisting of approved participation in compulsory teaching and approved compulsory assignments.
Participation in compulsory teaching must be approved before the final compulsory assignment is submitted.
It will also be counted as one of the three attempts to sit the exam for this course, if you sit the exam for one of the following courses:
- FRM4010 – Preparation Course for Research in Biology (discontinued)
- FRM4020 – Research Preparation Course in Pharmaceutical Analysis (discontinued)
- FRM4030 – Research Preparation course in Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Chemistry (discontinued)
- FRM4040 – Research Methodology for Projects in Social Pharmacy (discontinued)
- FRM4050 – Forskningsforberedende kurs i klinisk farmasi (discontinued)
- FRM4060 – Preparatory course for research in pharmaceutics (discontinued)
