Department of Geosciences
Dear 3rd-semester master student!
On 21 October you all received an email with a request to answer the annual questionnaire Studiebarometeret. The questionnaire takes 10-12 minutes to complete.
Currently, 21% of the 3rd-semester master students at Geosciences have answered the questionnaire, which is a bit low, and we'd hoped to increase the response rate to at least above 50%!
The deadline is Sunday 14 November!
The questionnaire is important for us and we urge you all to help us increase the response rate! It means a lot for the Geoscience education at the University of Oslo, but also for us working at the Department of Geosciences, in order to find out where to get better!
For more information see Studentbarometeret Student Survey web page.
Thank you for your help!

You can of course decide not to use a digital mailbox if that is what you prefer! Have a look at frequently asked questions (FAQ) regarding this, and if you like, more information can be found here:

Dear master student,
We hereby invite you and your fellow students to celebrate your completion of your Master's degree in Geosciences in 2021 on Friday 18 June at 13:30.
We were hoping we were in position to invite all of you for a graduation ceremony with physical attendance on campus this year. However, since we still are encouraged to avoid large gatherings on campus and the majority of us are unvaccinated we have decided that the best option for the time being is to formally mark and celebrate your achievement together online on Zoom.
If you plan to submit and defend you thesis autumn 2021, you are also very welcome to join the ceremony in June!
Last year's digital graduation ceremony on Zoom was a success with over 90 persons attending the master graduation ceremony. We will do our very best to make this day special for you as well! The great advantage with a digital ceremony is that you at least can invite your family, fr...
The Career Services UiO are here to partner with you to help you plan and prepare for employment.
The goal is to give you helpful tools in the transition between student life and working life. From the Candidate Experience Survey, we know that those who succeed in the transition to working life, among other things, have started job search before graduation and are good at communicating their skills. Students and recent graduates who have used the offers previously, provide feedback that courses and guidance from the Career Services have been useful in this transition.

Department of Geosciences
Students in their 2nd and 5th year on the bachelor- and masterprogramme, respectively, received an email for a time ago with an invitation to answer a questionnaire - Studiebarometeret. For those of us working with student administration, this questionnaire is quite important and we urge you to use this questionnaire to give us feedback on your student life.
It is also used to rank the GEO-education at the University of Oslo, and compare it with other academic institutions in Norway.
The questionnaire is national and this is your opportunity to raise the quality of your education.
The Department of Geosciences wish to raise the response rate, and will give the student council at the department (Geofaglig Fagutvalg, GFU) NOK 2500,- if the response rate is raised above ...
previously, we sent out an email to all 1st semester master students with information concerning studies abroad or at UNIS during your master's programme.
If you plan to do exchange studies abroad or at UNIS, spring 2019, please note:
- you have to apply for prior recognition (forhåndsgodkjenning) of the courses you plan to take during your exchange studies. As the name "prior recognition" implies, this has to be done prior to your exchange semester.
This is especially important if you plan to take courses which are supposed to replace any of your mandatory courses in your study plan. You will then need a formal approval from the student administration stating that your mandatory course(s) is to be replaced by the course(s) from your exchange studies abroad/UNIS.
If you plan to do a semeste...
We have been notified by some master students, having trouble getting in to the Geology building, especially in the weekends; and also particularly PC-room 209 (2 floor) and Visjonariet, room U07 (sub floor).
The Security Operation Centre (Vakt- og alarmsentralen) says that there has previously been changed a card reader in the corridor to 209 that was not registered in the access control level for GEO master students. This is now fixed.
We have tested the general access control level for GEO master students this afternoon, and it works fine and it should be working fine for all students at the master programme in Geosciences now. This also applies for the entrance in the ZEB-building.
What is important though, is that you have to use both card and your PIN code to access the building. Previously it was enough to just read the card.
The opening hours of the Geology building are found here:&nb...
