Tips for improving feedback in assessments

It is necessary to acknowledge that feedback is a learning itself, and feedback during the course (before the examination) as well as after the examination is essential. Here we will focus on how we can create examination forms that would both assess the student’s knowledge and how to make the assessments more learning oriented.

Improving feedback

It is crucial for the student’s progress to receive feedback on their performance on the assessments as well as this also generates learning. Under today’s system, the students can receive an explanation of grades if requested. However, these explanations are of varying quality and do not necessarily generate learning.

Below are two links that focus on how to improve feedback for learning enhancement. The first link deals with learning oriented assessment in practise as well as the importance of feedback, whereas the latter links deals with maximising students’ learning potential through exams. The author of the second link further suggest a review session before the exam and a debrief session after the exam.
